Claudia Saalmüller is a dance teacher,
choreographer and yoga instructor.
Born and raised in Frankfurt (Main) Claudia took dance classes right from an early age at Dr. Kochs conservatory
for classical ballet. After graduating from high school she moved to Munich in order to study at the Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance and later on at Varium Danza in Barcelona, Spain. As it was also her dream to choreograph and direct, she attended the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and holds a master degree in theatre sciences. She has worked in several theatre & show productions. Her work as a dance teacher includes projects at public schools and refugee camps as well as international summer camps for young artists funded by the European Union.
Although dancing has always played a major role in her life Claudia was searching for something calming and relaxing for her body and her mind. She found it in her yoga practice.
She became an RYT 500 with the American Yoga Alliance, after finishing her teacher training in Vinyasa Flow at Airyoga Munich and in Rishikesh, India. Claudia is also specialized in teaching children and teenagers (95 hours AYA) and Yin Yoga which she studied with Jo Phee at the Balance Yoga Institute Frankfurt Main.
She has been teaching kids and teens as part of the edutainment program at Schloss Elmau and was a resident teacher at the Bali Silent Retreat in Indonesia.
When in Munich she assists her former instructor Verena Simman at Airyoga and teaches her own classes at
several different yoga studios in town.
Vinyasa Flow Yoga synchronizes movement with breath
and includes an intention in each yoga class.
The different asanas are performed in a way that the entire session becomes a sequence of fluid movements. Vinyasa is a strong and dynamic yoga style that helps strengthen the muscles, while becoming more flexible at the same time.
Yin Yoga on the other hand is a very calm practice that has its origins in Traditional Chinese Medicine and follows its concepts of chi and meridians within the body.
Practiced alternately Yin Yoga and Vinyasa complement each other and create a perfect balance.
Teaching yoga or dance for children differs a lot from how we teach the classes for adults, yet the benefits are the same. Children also sit a lot in school or when they study at home and therefore need to move their bodies in a healthy way. They experience stress, the fear of not pasing an exam and yoga can help them deal with that kind of stress.
Both in dance and yoga classes we work a lot with stories, for example flying to Neverland with Peter Pan or making a trip to Ancient Egypt. We work with ryhmes and music, we sing and play.
When children get older and become teenagers the focus in dance classes lies on choreographies to music by artists they like. In Yoga we work with sequences that help us getting energized or to calm down.
